When the V8 Supercars come to town, they make noise. Not just in the metaphorical sense but also through massive crowds, media attention and the buzz that surrounds the city throughout the weekend. Coates Hire, the major sponsor of the Sydney leg of the tour, came to Blue Steel to help inject some extra entertainment and laughs for all their attendees.

We kitted them out with a fully branded booth, custom made props and of course the ability to share all the photos straight onto Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SMS and email. Intern they positioned us trackside in their chill-out tent, metres away from the thumping V8 action. You could literally feel the cars roaring past the booth as you had your photos taken with friends, family and at times…the drivers themselves.

What surprised us about this gig was the diversity of people that came by. You kinda expect the old stigma of hardcore Ford vs Holden rev-heads wearing flannelette shirts and sporting a mullet, but it wasn’t like that at all. It had more of a music/street festival vibe than anything. Friday was full of school kids, mostly aged between 12-17 that were ecstatic to have a day away from class to enjoy all the entertainment on show. Saturday was more of a family day alongside those eager to see where their hero’s would line up on the grid the following day. Sunday was the big race. Basically a crazy festival that heightened all the senses.

Our booth performed a like supercharged machine throughout the three days. At times the sun was baking so hot that we had large influxes of people needing a pit-break to cool off in the shade, sit down in front of the industrial fans and take some photos in the booth while they were there. And of course our champion crew were more than happy to help. Coates Hire and the V8 Supercars sure did put on a show and the well mannered, fun-loving crowd came in their masses 🙂
